Week 9: Field Placement
I am very surprised with all of the wonderful knowledge I have gained from observation. I always knew that it was going to be a great experience, but I didn't realize I would learn so much this quickly. I am observing a very low-level 4th grade class. 21 out of the 23 children in the class failed the ELA and State Exams last year. This makes this class a bit more interesting. My host teacher works very hard to get the children on the same page. This is very difficult because every student is on a different learning level. We have children in the class who range from a 2nd grade reading level to a 6th grade reading level. This really challenges my host teacher. She has to find a way to meet the needs of every student in her classroom.

It's interesting to see all your different learning levels! I have the same in my class and I like seeing how the teachers differentiate their lesson plans in order to suit the children's needs. Your field placement sounds interesting and that you're constantly busy!
ReplyDeleteMy classroom is very high-needs as well. Many of the students have behavioral issues and it's really difficult keeping them on task. I think this is a great experience for us to observe our host teacher with these types of children, it will help better prepare us for when we have difficult children in our classroom one day.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it can be difficult to teach a classroom when students are at all different learning levels. I can only imagine how your host teacher must feel. I like seeing how my host teacher meets the needs of the three learning levels in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI loved being in your class for that math lesson! Your teacher is awesome and has the best lessons. It was a great learning experience!
